Early childhood Learning key at Margate Hebrew School
At a time when the Broward County school system is fraught with corruption, cost overruns, promiscuity and union conflicts, a small, private school in Margate, unaffiliated with the system, is setting the standard for quality education by employing teachers and staff who make early childhood learning a top priority. For 18 months our Early Childhood Center has been striving to reach the highest goals of the Quality Rating System, said Academy Principal, Rivkie Denburg. This program challenges early childhood centers interested in going beyond state requirements in an effort to achieve the highest standards of excellence. [linkstart href=http://www.margatenews.net/margatenews/news/articles/article374.asp [linkclose]Click here to read more.[/linkend] __________________________________________

What are we feeding our Children?
A young, overweight Mom entered the convenience store the other day and gave her child a choice of what to have for breakfast. The child, appearing about six years old and overweight too, chose the strawberry crme wafers for $0.99, a mass of bleached flour and sugar void of vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber. It's time we stop feeding our kids junk. Bad diet is adversely affecting the minds and bodies of a whole generation, the least problems of which may be physical obesity. Hundreds of parents and teachers looked on while the AWE Soaring Eagle Chorus, comprised of students in grades 2 through 5, performed classics to Calypso, throwing their hands in the air, twisting, shouting and bopping their bodies to a boogie beat. Margate School Celebrates Patriotism
Im a pure patriot, a total American, and I dont see things any other way, said Beth Agami, mother of fallen hero, Specialist Daniel J. Agami, killed in action in Iraq on June 21, 2007. Beth Agami is concerned that patriotism is taking a back seat in the lives of South Floridians. So many come from other lands, she says, and don't celebrate with their children the history and traditions associated with American freedom. Getting Over the Budget Crunch
We read stories daily about budget cuts in education and how Margates children are being affected. Teachers are on strict budgets with regard to copies that can be made monthly. Students take home fewer worksheets and supplements. Some of the richest and most timely materials available to teachers are not making it into the hands of students because of the copy quotas.
